GCSU places well in Nashville, TN

Men’s Results. – Powered by a 15th place finish from freshman Collin Silliman (Douglasville, Georgia) the Georgia College Men’s Cross Country team took ninth place Saturday at the Trevecca Nazarene D2 Showcase.

Silliman led the Bobcat charge for the third-straight race, taking 15th place by posting a silliman_collin0227:26 in dramatic fashion, topping the next runner by seven seconds.

The pack running that had been the Bobcat men’s team forte up to this point eluded Georgia College, as the next finisher came in 44th in the form of freshman Shawn Olmstead (Buford, Georgia). The rookie crossed the line in 28:33. Third on the squad and 56th overall was junior Jim Galvin (Tucker, Georgia) in 28:56. The next two Bobcats took 62nd and 63rd, as sophomore Brian Skoglind (Cumming, Georgia) edged classmate Daniel Sexton (Cumming, Georgia) 29:23.5 to 29.23.8.

The Bobcats totaled 222 points for ninth, topped by South Atlantic Conference (SAC) foe Lincoln Memorial University. Georgia College finished ahead of three squads in the 12-team race. Northeast-10 (NE-10) representative Bentley University won the team title, edging Rogers State University of the Heartland Conference. RSU’s Baylor Harvey won individual honors in 25:38.

The Bobcats are back in action Friday, Oct. 7, traveling to the Royals XC Challenge in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Women’s Results

Junior Katherine Yost (Norcross, Georgia) continues to add to an already impressive resume, breaking a six-year-old school record in the 5K Saturday, taking second at the Trevecca Nazarene D2 Showcase. Yost took runner-up honors in the race, leading the team to a seventh-place finish in the meet, hosted by Trevecca Nazarene University.

yost_katherine03Yost blazed the 5K course in 18:57, topping the 19:13 mark set by Allison Lones Oct. 23, 2010. Yost has led the Bobcats in each of her two races this season.

Second on the team and 27th overall was Kaitlyn Griffith (Cumming, Georgia) crossing the line in 20:23. Fellow freshman Anna Tipton (Hartwell, Georgia)finished 33rd with a time of 20:41. The youth movement continued, as rookie Grace Lynch (Lawrenceville, Georgia) crossed in 20:54 for 40th place, and freshman Madison Bowers (Cumming, Georgia) took 57th in 21:53.

The Bobcats totaled 158 points for seventh, edged by one from Peach Belt Conference (PBC) foe UNC Pembroke. Georgia College finished ahead of seven teams, including region opponents in Lenoir-Rhyne University and Lincoln Memorial University. Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) representative Bloomsburg University won the team title, edging Truman State University of the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC).  Truman’s Laura Tarantino won individual honors, just 11 seconds ahead of Yost.

The Bobcats are back in action Friday, Oct. 7, traveling to the Royals XC Challenge in Charlotte, North Carolina.
