With the relaxing of the rules between GISA and GHSA two years ago, an idea was created to have a cross country race with all of the High Schools in Baldwin County. In 2014, it did not work out, but on 20 October the dream came to fruition. At the Walter B Williams Recreation Department, Baldwin High School, Georgia Military Academy Prep School and John Milledge Academy came together for the first of what hopes to be an annual event. Each school participated in the organization and planning of the event on what turned out to be a great day of racing for the kids.
The Middle School boys teams ran first. JMA did not have a MS runner in the race due to injury. Oak Hill MS and GMC squared off on what proved to be a very fast 2 mile double looped course.
Colin McCabe of GMC won the race with a time of 12:18. GMC took top honors while Oak Hill was 2nd.
In the MS girls race, GMC, Oak Hill and 1 runner from JMA competed. Once again GMC won the team race over Oak Hill. Emma Nelson of GMC turned in the fastest time at 14:15.
The HS boys race saw GMC and Baldwin tie for 1st with JMA in third. Hunter Kimball of GMC won the race with a time of 17:23. He set a new GMC school record in the process. Badlwin won the tiebreaker and won the trophy.
The HS girls race saw JMA emerge victorious on the team level with Nekebah Smith of Baldwin HS winning the race with a time of 22:45.
Great race and a great season for all the teams. All teams will be entering their region/area races this upcoming week. Good luck to all.
